Henry Ford started with a car called the Model A in 1903. After years of experimentation he reached the letter T in 1908. The Model T was extremely successful and was produced through 1927. 15 million Model T’s were made and sold world-wide.
The Model T was introduced in 1908 with left-hand drive. The car was capable of going 45 mph and needed only a gallon of gasoline every 25 miles. Like most Brass Era cars, this was a challenging car to drive. There was no self start, the acetylene headlights were prone to blowing up, and flat tires were very common. The 1913 Model T Touring model came with 3 doors, one on the left and two on the right. 1913 was the last year the Model T was offered in 5 colors.
In addition to putting America on wheels, Henry Ford is credited with being the father of the modern assembly line. In 1913 Ford introduced moving assembly belts into his plants, which created an increase in productivity.
