2010 Wings of Freedom tour
2,499 stops since the tour started and looking forward to 2011!

2010 national tour visited 112 cities.

Well done everyone!
Celebrating our 21st year - The Wings of Freedom Tour has completed 2,499 national stops since we started! This is all made possible by the dedication and hard work of volunteers and stop organizers around this great country of ours. At each stop there are volunteers who promote the tour, arrange accommodations for the crew, manage logistics, contact the local schools and help “turn the props.” Our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who helped keep these treasures of American history alive for all to see and experience.

You can help! Please contact us if you are interested in bringing the Wings of Freedom tour to your town. The Wings of Freedom Tour is one of the most powerful living history displays in the world - and you can be a part of it. Help support the operation of these majestic aircraft and have the time of your life! Give us a call to see if we can put your local airport in the national schedule for 2011. We will be continuing to update our 2011 Wings of Freedom tour schedule online. Check back often for updates.

A-4 Skyhawk and F-4 Phantom Flight Experiences and Training

The F-4 Phantom II and TA-4J Skyhawk are two of the most recognizable fighter jets of the Vietnam War. Both are well known for being fast, highly maneuverable and lethal. The Collings Foundation saw the importance of preserving these legendary jets for civilian flight programs and “living history” events.

The Foundation is now offering, for the first time ever, flight experiences to members of the public. This once in a lifetime opportunity allows both pilots and non-pilots to experience the most important jet fighters of the Vietnam/Cold War era from the best possible perspective – in the cockpit of these legendary aircraft!

The F-4 and A-4 Flight Programs take place at the Collings Foundation’s Houston, Texas facility. Each participant will take part in academic sessions on board the aircraft, including safety procedures, ejection seat training and cockpit orientation, before donning a fight-suit and strapping into one of the most powerful civilian operated fighters in the world.

We are now accepting reservations over the winter of 2010-2011 (best time to fly!).

Status Report - F-105 & Me 262 - brief overview

F-105 Thundercheif:Congress has been reluctant to transfer a 105 to the Collings Foundation as a Deed of Gift. (This was how we were able to acquire the F-4 Phantom and A-4 Skyhawk) We are currently working with the House Arms Services Committee. They have directed the Department of Defense to do a study of transferring military artifacts. The report is due by April 2011. In addition, we are continuing to work on the Senate with great support from Medal of Honor and POW groups and individuals.

Me 262 : We are in the final stages of restoration. Leading edge slats are almost done. Once complete we will be ready to start in-flight tests and pilot training. After we have completed our flight tests and training we will resubmit our Me-262 flight exemption to the FAA (this will allow us to offer flights in this incredible aircraft). Check our web site regularly for most up-to-date information.
