"A date which will live in infamy."
|

On December 7, 1941, Japanese planes attacked the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, killing over 2,300 Americans. The U.S.S. Arizona was destroyed and the U.S.S. Oklahoma capsized. A total of twelve ships sank or were beached in the attack and many additional vessels were damaged. More than 160 aircraft were destroyed and more than 150 damaged.
The following day President Roosevelt, called December 7th "a date which will live in infamy." Declaring war against Japan, Congress ushered the United States into World War II. Within days, Japan's allies, Germany and Italy, declared war on the United States, and the country began a very long struggle of military campaigns in the Pacific, North Africa, and Europe.
Although 70 years have passed, the memory of the horrors, sacrifices and American determination lives on. The Collings Foundation expresses our most heart felt thanks to our Veterans, their families and all who helped preserve our Freedom.

2012 WINGS OF FREEDOM TOUR
|
Starting our 23rd annual tour in Florida
|
The first stop on the 2012 Wings of Freedom tour will be our 2,209th stop since we started 23 years ago. An absolutely phenomenal effort from people all across the United States to make this possible!
The foundation is always looking for suggestions on how to improve the tour, new stops and help. Volunteering is a lot of fun! We have many materials and recourses that can be utilized to make each and every stop a fantastic living history event.
The national tour is scheduled, confirmed and posted in legs. The tour starts in Florida and over the course of ten months we do a giant zigzag clockwise loop around the U.S., eventually ending in Florida. If you would like to help out when the tour comes to your area wait until the date is posted then contact Hunter Chaney at the Collings Foundation: hchaney@collingsfoundation.org
If you would like to recommend a stop there are certain things we need to be able to fly in: an approximate 5,000 foot runway, room to park a B-17, B-24 and P-51 together, access to the public for walk-through tours, ability to offer flight experiences, suitable hotel accommodations for the crew and help promoting the tour. Over 2011 we added several new locations that were very well received! We look forward to your recommendations.

Reminder:
DFC and Plane Sponsorship levels will change January 31, 2012
We hope you will make your contribution before the end of the year.
|
Your contributions and sponsorships are what keep these programs running. We receive no state or government funding. Help keep the legacy alive for generations to come. As of January 31, 2012 our DFC and Plane Sponsor donations levels will increase. DFC level donation will increase to $2,500 and Plane Sponsor donation will increase to $7,000. The Plane Sponsorship levels have not increased since we started the program 25 years ago. We hope that you will take advantage of the existing Plane Sponsor and DFC levels before 1/31/12. *Important to note: currently, you can apply up to $2,500 in past flights toward a Plane Sponsor level of $5,000.
There are many benefits to a Plane Sponsorship: Basic Membership plus lifetime subscription to CF Newsletter, 10% PX discount, honored name on B-17 or B-24 in Plane Sponsor Section.
